Consumerism

Consumerism

Buying is probably the 3rd biggest thing that people do after working and sleeping. We need things so we regularly stock up groceries to feed ourselves. That all sounds good, but what is consumerism. Why do I use it in a negative term?
Lets take an example of what I’m trying to convey. Every week you by 12 oranges from which you make 1 and half glasses of fresh orange juice everyday before you go to work. You enjoy it so much that you think to yourself, let me stock up on it now so that I don’t have to keep running down to the convenience store to fetch more just in case I feel like having more. So in this case you take 24. Now your week starts, you have your juice, in fact you have it so much that you had it with oranges. You now throw the remaining into a bin -waste- this is called greed. I’m not trying to say you do this, I do this too, people with stable incomes can afford ’greed’. However we need to remember that this food we dispose of is equivalent to feed the entire globes poverty stricken population TWICE.
Do not buy things you don’t need, just in case you do run out of your favorite Pantene shampoo, get it only when you need it. Don’t end up like one of those who don’t give a two bits about the people who don’t have water or food for days and weeks.
